I finished Stranger In a Strange Land by Henlein the other day. I nearly stopped reading it halfway through because of his intense homophobia (not to mention the rampant sexism). The narrator says that if anyone had made a homosexual advance on the protagonist he would have sensed a "wrongness" in them and made them "disappear." The women in that book seem to be there for no purpose other than to be fucked and act motherly.

Now I'm reading Gillian Gill's biography of Mary Baker Eddy. Eddy suffered much of the same that the women in Stranger in a Strange Land did, only she managed to overcome it, at least a little bit. If she isn't the only woman to have ever founded a religion, she is at least one of a very few, during the 19th century nonetheless. Unfortunately it seems that she wasn't a particularly nice person. So much for a role model...

Christian Science is dying a long, horrible death anyway. Even though the church doesn't publish numbers, the numbers have to declining massively. I don't have any friends who are members of the church, and I doubt that I ever will be. Not that this is really surprising, in fact it is probably the way that things should be. The church is so pitiful, reasonable testimony so rare, that the damn thing deserves to die.

I read the first reasonable Christian Science type thing I had read in years a while ago, it was Richard Bach's Jonathan Livingston Seagull. Ray Bradbury said that read it made you feel like you could fly. It really did, the book addresses the subject of life after death and does a better job of it than the theology of Dante ever did for me. The protagonist, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, is on a quest to become a better image of the perfect gull, relentlessly striving for perfection. Bach has, of course, quit Christian Science, like everyone else of note.

Today was the first day of school in a month. I've decided that I have a rather signifigant hatred of school. It isn't about learning, it has never been about learning, and I don't think graduate school has much potential to be about learning either. As near as I can tell, the only reason anyone goes to school is to get a piece of paper.

You would think that for all this trouble, I could make me own piece of paper, keep $20,000 and go into a coma for four years, and come out ahead of all the other college students.

I hate Altoids, and I hate the Bare Naked Ladies.

    

Pornography has become sort of boring. I think this is a problem. Looking at britney spears doesn't help much either. I have trouble even mustering that deep loathing for her that I used to. I was working on the great American novel, but got bored. This was the result. They had us write haiku in elementary school, but we missed the point. The number of syllables don't matter, the real point of a haiku is to express a concise image.

I have this picture of Jennifer Lopez on my desktop. On my 21 inch monitor she probably amounts to a 2.5 foot tall woman if fully stretched out. What would it be like to have a 2.5 foot high Jennifer Lopez running around one's home?

I feel bad about having an effectively naked woman on my desktop. Her nipple makes me uncomfortable. At 1600x1200 pixels, I'm also fairly sure she doesn't have any pubic hair. This makes me uncomfortable as well. All this discomfort makes me feel that I am a good, not overly sexist person, that I can see how she has been sacrificed to the goods of publicity. After all what way is a woman to make money save by having a photo shoot?

So, I feel happy that I have identified this grievous insult to the proper nature of humanity and done nothing at all about it. I'm going to go buy some ice cream now, and take comfort in the fact that as a man it doesn't matter how I look. I have a career ahead of me because men, unlike women are respected for their ideas and not just their transparent green sweaters.

I need to find out if I got the privilages right, so fuzzybunny (I assume you haven't changed the password yet) is going to post some extremely high quality pornography. Oh, I want her...

I think I finally got wasabi all done.  Anyone with a nonplatonic
account should be able to call /home/ben/wasabi/perl/wasabi with the file they
want to add as an argument.

Read these notes before you try it.  I did some weird things that might
really fuck you if you aren't expecting it.

Things to be careful of when using wasabi:

(1) Don't name a fragment the same thing as another in the same edition,
unless you want to replace a crapped over version of your own fragment.
Calling "wasabi hi" and then "wasabi hi" again will replace the first hi
fragment with the second.

(2) The wasabi script will grab everything in the current directory and
put it in the current wasabi directory.  So, call wasabi from a directory
that contains your fragment, any pictures, or linked shit and nothing
else.

(3) Fragments should be no wider that 675 pixels, otherwise, the layout
gets fucked.

(4) Using tables in fragments is a bad idea, because browsers usually
don't deal with nested tables too well and all the fragment are inside one
big table.
